Seoraksan National park was designated the 5th national park in Korea in 1970 and chosen as a nature preservation area on November 5, 1965 Also, internationally recognized for its rare species, Seoraksan is the area in Korea to have been designated as a Biosphere Preservation District by UNESCO in 1982, and in IUCN recognized its rich natural resources and labeled it category Ⅱ(National Park).

Over 2,000 animal species live in Seoraksan, including the Korea goral, Musk deer, and Other. There are also more than 1,400 rare plant species, such as the Edelweiss, here as well.


Taebaeksan range encompasses several peaks such as Yeongbong Peak (alt. 1,560 m), where in the past, people would conduct rites to venerate Heaven at Cheonjedan Altar; Janggunbong Peak (alt. 1,567 m), Munsubong Peak (alt. 1,517 m), and its summit of Hambaeksan Mountain (alt. 1,572 m). Taebaeksan serves as a home to diverse wild animals and plants, including several endangered species.

Nami Island

Nami Island, located in the Bukhangang River in Bangha-ri, Chuncheon, is well-known as a representative themed tourist attraction in Korea. Nami Island is a charming tourist destination that is in harmony with the natural ecosystem and culture & arts. It provides beautiful walking paths, such as Metasequoia Lane, Ginkgo Tree Lane, Korean Pine Tree Lane, and Reed Woods Lane, and cultural and arts spaces, such as Picture Book Library, Handicraft Studio, UNICEF Hall, and Song Museum. As it is Korea’s first UNICEF Child Friendly Park, there are many spaces for children, including a playground and a library.

Woljeongsa Temple

Woljeongsa Temple is located in the dense forest of a valley found in the east of the Odaesan Mountain in Dongsan-ri, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. Woljeongsa Temple, which is found at a quiet place where the vital force of Manwolsan Mountain has gathered, exudes a quiet and peaceful beauty surrounded by evergreen needleleaf trees. In front of it, Geumgangyeon, where Manchurian trouts swim in the clear and cold water, flows displaying a beautiful scenery.

Unification Observatory

When you stand at the observatory located at the place 70 m high meeting the truce line and the Southern Limit Line, you can see Guseonbong Peak and Haegeumgang Island of Geumgangsan Mountain near and in case of sunny days you can see Ongnyeobong Peak, Chaehabong Peak and Ilchulbong Peak. At the Guard Post where the North and the South Korea are confronted each other, You can feel some tension. This is the representative tourist attration where 1,500,000 tourists visit annually.

Wondae-ri Birch Forest

Birch can be seen at the mountain region of Gaangwon-do including Taebaek, Hoengseong and Inje. Inje is the representative habitat of birch.The 3.5km access way of 'Wondaeri Birch Forest' in Inje was made with 650 million won by Korea Forest Service.In Wondaeri Birch Forest there are 690,000 trees in 138ha which were grown up from 1974 to 1995. Children Forest Experience Center has been also run in 25ha. And there are also various facilities such as 3 trails(3.5km), a forest school, wood bridges and observatory in order to help tourists.
